At the October 24 Soaring Dragon Celebration, guests at the two Boeing Company tables gathered in front of a spectacular painting by Yiqiao (George) Jiang. Titled Chinese Dream, Peony Passion, it honors President Xi Jinping’s recent visit to Seattle and Washington, D.C.

Soaring Dragon Celebration attendees enjoyed a reception with wine, guzheng music by Ena Wang, a painting demonstration by George Jiang, and a chance to win items in a silent auction. Sifu David Leong and students at Northwest Kung Fu and Fitness led a colorful lion dance to dinner, pumping up the energy for the live auction action.

Guests raised bid cards to snare vacation stays in Guatemala and at Whistler, Alaska Airlines tickets, a VIP tour of the Boeing Everett plant, an instant wine cellar, and much more. Auctioneer Stephen Kilbreath proved a master at coaxing bids higher and higher, aided by emcee Wei Zuo and her skillful bilingual item descriptions.

Inspired by a $10,000 raise the paddle challenge donation from a Garden admirer, other friends responded to calls for support from board president Jim Dawson and Mason Blacher, our fundraising counsel. An upcoming e-newsletter will report in more detail.

Soaring appreciation to The Boeing Company and Alaska Airlines. Many thanks to everyone who donated items to the auction and to winning bidders, Raise the Paddle supporters, table captains and attendees, and to our wonderful event volunteers. Your contributions give a big boost to our programs and capacity building initiatives as we enter 2016.
